Ujwal N. Nirgudkar is a Chemical Engineer from U.D.C.T. Mumbai University (Now called ICT) working with the Indian Film Industry for the past 42 years. He is currently Chairman of SMPTE-India Section (Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers, NY, USA). He was awarded “Fellow Award” by SMPTE in Nov.2007 at New York for his global contribution to Motion Picture Industry. First Indian to receive U.S. Patents for Film Technology.

He was the First Indian appointed as Director on the Board of “International Association of Cinema & Video Laboratories”, USA. First Indian to be invited by the Oscar Academy to join in Technical Category 2017. He is also a member of “Science & Technology Council” of the Oscar Academy in since Nov.2020. He worked as a Global Consultant for a Dutch MNC “Akzo Nobel” from 2009-2014 to promote a Non-polluting Film Processing Technology across the World. (This Technology was started by him in India in 2004 & was used by Hollywood in 2008.)

He worked as “Chief Technical Advisor” from April-2016 to March 2023 for “National Film Heritage Mission” a 600 Crore project, under the National Film Archives, Information & Broadcasting Ministry, Government of India. Currently He is advisor to I & B Ministry, Government of India & Cultural Ministry, Government of Maharashtra. Currently He is also Member of “Media & Entertainment” Standards Committee of Bureau of Indian Standards (Popularly known as ISI), Government of India.
